We had the pleasure of playing, yet again, on a great bill a couple weeks ago... one of those magical nights where all the band made sense together and were equally stellar in each of our genres, and the crowd was, well, amazing too. So thank you, No Country For New Nashville, for this great review and live photos that captured the evening! And thank you for getting what we do!

Silence is golden. That's what they say. We promise our silence lately doesn't mean we aren't busy. We've been working on a "golden" new album for you with the boys over at Cosmic Thugs Records and it's almost ready for mastering by the talented John Baldwin. Next? We will find our rockin' record a home. Sometimes this takes time. And silence. Stay tuned, for when we crank up the noise.

Happy last day of summer! We are releasing our beloved version of the 1985 hit "Boys of Summer" (originally by Don Henley) today in celebration of the change of seasons. We've been playing "Boys" at our live shows for sometime now, and the feedback has been overwhelming for us to release a recording of it. So here ya go folks! (to buy see link on top of page). Of course, with the single being released, we had to have a video to accompany. So please check out the new video on YouTube and we would be ever so grateful if you would share it with all your friends. It features a young Kim from old 8MM family footage... Nostalgia to match the song. Check it out here: BOYS OF SUMMER

Don't let the lack of posts on this News page let you think The Flowers have not been busy. They've just been laying low after a year of touring to support the successful release of 2 Guns last year. But touring for this album is not over yet... After many requests to get their butts over to the West Coast again, Kim and Scott are heading for a 2 week tour to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Please check out the tour page to see the list of cities, and help spread the word to anyone you may know in these areas. If we are hitting your town, come say hey! The Smoking Flowers are proud to announce their partnership with CHILD FUND INTERNATIONAL for the LIVE series, as they partner with other performing artists to help spread the message of how child sponsorship is changing the lives of those in poverty.

Started in 1938, ChildFund International is inspired and driven by the potential that is inherent in all children; the potential not only to survive but to thrive, to become leaders who bring positive change for those around them. Their distinctive approach focuses on working with children throughout their journey from birth to young adulthood, as well as with families, local organizations and communities globally to create the environments children need to thrive. And what makes them stand out from other child organizations is the fact that once YOU sponsor a child, you can actually have communication (as well as visit) with this child and watch how your sponsorship money is put in action. If you are interested in helping The Flowers help these children by becoming a sponsor, please visit THIS LINK and make sure you link from The Smoking's > Flowers page to sign up.

If you catch one of our live shows, you can sign up at our merchandise table as well. See you on the road, America!

2 Guns has already garnered some great press in the first week of it's release. Check out these reviews that just rolled in:

From Relix's online blog, Jambands.com, THIS IS A STELLAR REVIEW BY BRIAN ROBBINS. He seems to really get what The Flowers are doing. Thank you, Brian.

Some hometown love...

THE NASHVILLE SCENE: With so much marital strife popping up in the local rags these days, it’s nice to see at least one couple who are doing better than ever. The Smoking Flowers — aka the dashing duo of Kim and Scott Collins — are playing Music City Roots this week, and their album 2 Guns (no relation to the action movie) is getting a proper national release via City Hall Records. A scorcher of a fuzz-folk record that’s equal parts country charm and rock ’n’ roll wildin’, 2 Guns blazes with a fire you’re not going to find on your average Americana record. The dynamic between the Collinses shares the tension and love of a good marriage and a great band — and it’s on the shortlist for our local albums of the year. The fact that Kim is in remission from breast cancer only makes it sweeter. —SEAN L. MALONEY

World Video Premiere of the new single /> "Something I Said"

Click here to watch the video!

A big thank you to American Songwriter for featuring our video and giving it an exclusive with their publication. That rocks. Here's what they had to say:

"The Smoking Flowers, the East Nashville singer-songwriter duo of Kim and Scott Collins, is quietly building hype. Well, not quietly exactly as the pair specialize in their own brand of blues-rock (with “a sweet flavor of Southern Gothic”) but they do take it down a few notches, matching the minimalist arrangement with solo shots of the performers, in their latest video for the haunting slowburn “Something I Said.”

“The video is yet another exercise in minimalism for us,” Says Scott Collins of the Allen Clark-directed spot. “Something we dwell in often, in regards to our music. We wanted the video to create a modern twist on classic film noir by evoking dusky and stark black and white contrasts, but yet filming it all in color. The obvious and natural yin and yang symbolism could then shine through… the interdependence of light and dark, male and female, the sun and the stars.

“The bulk of the challenge in filming this video fell on Kim and her acting performance, as she had to delicately emote and be able to engage the viewer for nearly the whole song. ‘Something I Said’ is definitely the black sheep of our new album, 2 Guns, in which it is the only song that Kim takes the vocal completely solo, abandoning our signature two part arrangement. I do my “singing” through guitar only and Kim does not play an instrument, as she normally would.

2 Guns is the Smoking Flowers sophomore effort and will be released August 20th." ~ Shea Corrigan (American Songwriter)

Happy Earth Day! Here's a recent review for our upcoming release "2 Guns":

Is it uncouth to say that a married couple making records together reminds you of Ike and Tina? Is it slander? It seems like it might imply things we’d rather not talk about, but when local power-couple Kim and Scott Collins start trading lines on The Smoking Flowers’ new 2 Guns album, we can’t help but think of a folkier Nutbush City Limits. Maybe it’s the fuzz-country stomp or the inherent tension that comes along with being in a matrimonial situation that doubles as a band situation. (I’m in a band with my better half, and that shit ain’t always puppies and rainbows.) Granted, 2 Guns may not have the Ikettes singing in the background, but tracks like “The Juggler,” “The Wrong Kind of Man” and “El Matador” boil over with the sort of heat and chemistry you’ll find only between two long-term lovers. And unlike Ike and Tina, Kim and Scott harmonize pretty well offstage too. An upcoming release is always celebration, but this one even more so, as the couple are also celebrating Kim’s recent triumph over breast cancer. —SEAN L. MALONEY (The Nashville Scene)

Summertime and the livin' is easy... Woo Hoo! Just home from Florida. The beach tour was rockin... we love 30A.

July 4th was magical on the white sand beaches and our shows were packed with new faces as well as the regular locals we've grown to call friends. Glad to be home with a tan and a smile on our faces. Thanks again for all who came to the shows! And a big thanks to Emily who "loaned" us (a band she has never met before) her house for a week. You're awesome. Nice digs.

/> Glad to be back home after an amazing 3 week tour in California! It was such a beautiful experience and we had more success than we could have ever imagined (yes, news to follow!). There truly is nothing better than hitting the road with your loved one, being able to do what you love (in this case music) and going with the flow of events... such a gypsy lifestyle that opens the heart to new experiences and brilliant encounters with kindred spirits. Thanks to Drew and Niki Sherrod for the wonderful accomodations while in LA, and to our amazing new friend, Gayle Day, for your help with booking, studio and etc. You're lovely.

Also, our tour in the Northern part of the state was all the more an adventure by squeezing in a van with 2 other bands (Harlowe and the Great North Woods and Pat Hull) and traveling around the gorgeous country side making new fans. Do yourself a favor and check these bands out if you ever get a chance. Seriously talented writers and performers... and a pleasure to journey with. I still can't believe we fit everything in that van.

Here's to life. And deluxe size vans. Cheers,
Kim & Scott

Gearing up for our 3 /> week tour to Cali this weekend. Just put the finishing touches on our new cd, "2 Guns", this week. Feels good! Please check out our new unreleased single on the music page called "Golden State" (Kinda apropos for the tour, eh?).

Just finished the album with Chad Brown behind the board turnin' knobs over at The Toy Box studios here in our very own East Nashville. And of course the musical talents of Chris Autry on bass, Marshall Richardson on drums, Peter Hyrka on the violin, and Micha on the baby grand (more East Nashvillians... there's a trend here:). Oh, and props to Andy Wilson who gave it a fine mastering job at the famous Masterdisk in New York! Ok, so there are the kudos... So many more to give. We have a mess of talented people in our lives.
